How can this story demonstrate the IMPORTANCE of the Olympic Flame?
This story, Prometheus, demonstrates the importance of the Olympic Flame because it shows that with a little detication and determanation you can go a long way. This also demonstrates the importance of the Olympic Flame because without it, we wouldn't know when the game started and we pretty much wouldn't really have the Olympic games. The flame is one of the most important parts when it comes to Olympics. All the modern Olympics have started with it, and I think some of the ancient Olympics may have started with the Flame as well. The Flame is a huge part and all the games that go on there. My group and I hope that this answers this question.
Usage: The usage of the Olympic Flame is to show that the Olympics will be starting in just several months. It is lit through out the entire Olympic Games and the relay. After all the games are done, it gets extinguished.
History: The Flame started in the Ancient Olympics when Prometheus supposidly 'stole' fire from the Greek god Jupiter. Ever since that day and that story, all the Olympic games have started with the Flame.
Cauldron: The cauldron that the flame sits on is usually very dramatically designed. The Flame has sat upon this since 1984 when Rafer Johnson lit some sort of a wick at the top of an archway after climbing many stairs.
Flame of Hope: The flame of hope was lit in 1989 as a tribute to Fredrick Banting who discovered insilin in 1922 for people who had lost their lives to diabetes. The flame will remain lit in Sir Fredrick Square in London, Ontario, Canada.
Eternal Flame: The eternal flame is either a flame or torch that consistantly burns. It consistantly burned in Delphi was an archiac feature and was considered an 'alien to the ordinary Greek temple.'
